• Make an Impact! The Director of Hospital Coding Services is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational oversight, regulatory compliance, and performance management of the Health System’s inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory surgery, emergency department, and ancillary hospital coding programs. This position ensures the accurate, complete, and timely assignment of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, HCPCS, and CPT coding to support appropriate reimbursement, quality reporting, and regulatory compliance. Under the general supervision of the AVP of HIM and Patient Identity, the Director provides leadership to hospital coding managers and staff, oversees coding vendor relationships, monitors key performance indicators, and collaborates with Revenue Cycle, Compliance, Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI), Information Technology, and clinical leadership to optimize coding accuracy and reimbursement. The position serves as a subject matter expert in hospital coding regulations, reimbursement methodologies, and coding compliance. Responsibilities for the role include:

·               Provides leadership and oversight for all hospital facility coding operations, including inpatient, outpatient, observation, emergency department, ambulatory surgery, and ancillary services.

·               Develops, implements, and maintains hospital coding policies, workflows, productivity standards, and quality initiatives.

·               Ensures compliance with CMS, ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Coding Guidelines, APC, MS-DRG, and other hospital reimbursement methodologies.

·               Collaborates with CDI leadership to support accurate severity of illness (SOI), risk of mortality (ROM), and DRG assignment.

·               Oversees coding work queues and monitors coding turnaround times to support timely billing and revenue generation

·               Monitors audit outcomes, denial trends, and compliance findings and develops corrective action plans as necessary.

·               Partners with Revenue Integrity, Compliance, Patient Financial Services, and Information Technology on coding optimization initiatives.

·               Reviews and analyzes coding productivity, accuracy, financial performance, and reimbursement trends.

·               Oversees external coding vendor relationships, contracts, quality reviews, and performance standards.

·               Leads hospital coding education programs and ensures ongoing staff competency development.

·               Recruits, hires, mentors, evaluates, and develops coding managers and coding staff.

·               Supports system-wide coding and revenue cycle transformation initiatives.

·               Participates on interdisciplinary committees related to documentation improvement, compliance, reimbursement, and technology optimization.

Position: Director Hospital Coding Serv
Shift: Day

Experience: 
1. Minimum five years of progressively responsible coding leadership experience.
2. Extensive experience in hospital facility coding, auditing, compliance, and reimbursement methodologies.
3. Experience managing remote coding teams and outsourced coding vendors preferred.

Education: 
1. Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field required.


Licensures/Certifications: 
1. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required. 
2. RHIA or RHIT preferred. 
3. Additional relevant coding certifications preferred.
